NEVER A DULL MONKEY

It has finally happened!

I have my last child through the 3's!!!  And I am still alive and there are no other potential 3 year olds in sight!

I should probably explain.

In our home, our children never experience the Terrible Two's.  Oh, I don't mean that they are angelic children all the time in their toddler years.  I just mean that they save all their raucous, rude and defiant behavior for their Thrilling Threes!  Even Catey, who hardly did anything wrong in her life was difficult at 3!  She used to lay on her back and pound her heels so hard on the ground during her three year old tantrums that I thought she would shatter her ankles!  And Jocelyn!  Oh my!  She would do everything just to spite you.  Many times.  Many days.  In a row.  And don't ever say no to a 3 year old Jocelyn....she thought that meant, "do it".  Carli did all of those things plus the added excitement of biting.  And Gecko....he just beat on his brother and then tried to lie about it!

And then we got to Sam.

Now, Sam had more energy and climbing ability and way less fear than all my other kids....but surprisingly, he was the easiest 3 year old we had!  He listened better, cooperated more, thought of others more often and was actually repentant when he did something wrong.

Sam saved all his three year old energy for other things.  Like urinating in the sink and toy bins, sticking his head in the mop water, letting other bodily functions have their way in the backyard and....well, you get the picture.  Three year old Sam required a different kind of patience.

Anyway....that monkey turned four on Tuesday!  Yay!!  We made it through the woods.......

Or so I thought.

Yesterday, when Sam was 4 years and ONE day old, he apparently left a gross package in his room.  And Gecko informed us.

ALL OF US:  Ewwwwww, Sam!  Gross!
MOM:  Did you clean it up.
SAM:  No.
MOM: Why not?!
GECKO:  The dog ate it.
MOM:  Okay...BARF!  Sam....why wasn't it in the potty in the first place?

And my darling FOUR YEAR OLD SON said to me:
"Because I wasn't over the potty when I did it!"

He is nothing if he is not honest....and OBVIOUS! (and, granted, his tummy had been bothering him all day)  Pray for his four year old year.....it is off to a messy start.

All I can do is laugh! That Sam is just way too cute!

Think of all the laughs he brings you and the many many stories you get to tell him when he is older.

now i understand why Ben feels the urge to place his hands in the toilet. when there are things floating in it. things that came from a 4 year old body. ben also inserts his hands into any liquid- be it his drink, salad bowl, cereal bowl... ugh.... where is 5??? thank God noah SEEMS to have more logic and self-restraint!!
(though I have to applaud Sam's logic and reasoning on his answer!)
you might want to mention that Amy will NOT put up with any gross packages lying around the house.

she has standards.

Not many.

But she does have a few!!!

The picture! Clever clever you! I'd say he'd outgrow it but you never know..... He may be a Man vs. Wild in the making! Cuz you know, doing what he does wherever he needs to do it is a good skill to have in some times and places ;)
